Poker is a card game in which players bet on the strength of their hand against other hands. The objective is to have the best 5-card hand at the end of the betting phase. Players place chips (representing money) into a pot before each deal. The player with the highest-ranking hand wins the pot and all bets made during that round.<\/p>\n
There are many variants of poker, but all have some things in common. Each player puts up a certain amount of money for the betting phase. Then, the dealer deals each player two cards face down. These cards are called the hole or pocket cards. Then, the first player to the left of the big blind begins the betting phase.<\/p>\n
Players take turns clockwise around the table revealing their hand. Each player must make a bet that is at least equal to the amount of the bet made by the player before him. If no player has a hand, the bet is folded and the next player takes his turn.<\/p>\n
One of the most important things to remember in poker is that your hand\u2019s strength or weakness is only relative to the other players\u2019 hands. For example, if you have kings and someone else has A-A, your kings are losers 82% of the time. But, if you have A-K and the flop comes up 10-8-6, then your two pair are winners.
